Common Sprinting Mistakes & How to Fix Them

Even the most dedicated athletes can lose valuable speed through poor technique. Small errors in body position, arm movement, or stride timing can limit performance and increase injury risk.

Good sprint form makes all the difference — find out why in Why Sprint Technique Matters More Than You Think.

Here are three mistakes I see most often — and how to fix them:

  1. Running “low” or crouched – Keep your body tall and upright to allow full hip extension and power.
  2. Tense shoulders and hands – Relax your upper body. Smooth, loose arm swings improve rhythm and speed.
  3. Over-striding – Focus on quick, efficient foot contact beneath your body instead of reaching too far forward.

These fixes are a key part of our team sport sprint training sessions at DART Fitness.

Correcting these habits can transform an athlete’s running form in just a few sessions. At DART Fitness, I use simple cues and drills to help athletes run faster, smoother, and with greater confidence.
